Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder each involve dozens of genetically distinct risk genes, but mechanisms tied to individual rare mutations may have limited therapeutic reach. Mechanisms shared across independent forms of genetic risk are more likely to be broadly relevant. My research seeks to define this convergence across genetic mouse models and human brain tissue, with a particular focus on post-transcriptional regulation—including mRNA translation, alternative splicing, isoform regulation, and nucleocytoplasmic transport—which has emerged repeatedly across the models I study.

In Morgan Sheng’s group at the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research, I pursue this question through comparative multi-omics and mechanistic studies across genetic mouse models and human brain tissue, with a particular interest in recurrent disruptions of RNA regulation and synaptic biology. I completed my Ph.D. with Eric Klann at New York University before joining the Broad Institute.
